EM60G advances data collection technology with metadata

New integrated improvements to the EM60G data logger have the potential to cut workflow time in half

PULLMAN, Wash. (Jan. 28, 2018)—METER Group introduces the EM60G data logger, a device that simplifies and streamlines data collection in an effort to eliminate inefficient processes and provide researchers the critical time they need to focus on their data. Dr. Colin Campbell, a Senior Research Scientist and the Vice President of Environment at METER Group, is proud to announce the release of the new data logger as it represents the next important step in the METER Group telemetry offering.

The new EM60G data logger improves workflow and adds important metadata like GPS location and barometric pressure, which add critical benchmarking information to data researchers collect. Campbell said, “We’ve included advanced technology to help people who need metadata about their research site. For instance, GPS location: having the data logger on a map is a big deal. It’s likely someone on your team installed the data logger, and now you or your graduate student need to go find it. This and other improvements we’ve integrated into the new EM60G have the potential to cut workflow time in half.

Campbell said the EM60G is all about enhancing the user’s experience. The 6-port data logger can connect with any micro-USB to USB cable, which means no more unnecessary commutes to and from field sites for forgotten cables. It also self-recognizes what’s plugged into each port to eliminate complex configuration work and make searching for sensors in a dropdown menu a thing of the past. Its hardware, software, connectivity, and firmware all work together to provide data in the desired format—anywhere, anytime. Additional improvements include an integrated solar panel which automatically charges NiMH batteries. “With the EM60G, you don’t ever need to think about replacing your batteries. Our goal is to enable users forget about data logger setup and maintenance completely, so they can focus on the data.” Campbell said.

The EM60G is an integrated data collection system designed to work with any of METER’s sensors. To learn more, visit: metergroup.com/EM60G.
