PULLMAN, Wash.—METER Group, Inc. USA was selected as a winner of the 2018 German Design Award for Excellent Product Design in the Industry category for its SKALA system. This is the second award for SKALA, which won the iF Design Award in 2017. The award will be presented on February 9, 2018, at the award ceremony in Frankfurt, Germany.
The German Design Award recognizes products whose design quality “truly represent pioneering contributions to the German and international design landscape.” The stringent selection process starts during the nomination round, when products are selected for the competition by a panel of experts from the German Design Council. This year, 5,000 nominations were ultimately considered by a jury of international design experts.
SKALA was designed to link devices in food quality labs, regardless of manufacturer or operating system, and stream digital readings as they are taken. It turns any device with a serial port into a smart device. SKALA-connected devices streamline the human-machine interaction, delivering essential data in real time.
“To receive the German Design Award is a great honor for us,” said Manuel Irritier, industrial designer at METER Group AG. “We are delighted to have met the jury’s high standard for incorporating user-centered design into digital products.”
“By designing a product from the ground up, we were able to focus on the needs of the user,” Irritier added. “As a result, SKALA is both flexible and refined. SKALA expresses precision and quality in its smallest details.”
The SKALA Hub and SKALA AQ1 were submitted as a unit and form the basis of a system that helps food manufacturers manage quality, compliance, and profitability using real-time data. It was built specifically to fit workflows in food production and quality assurance. Learn more about SKALA and the AQ1 at meter.ly/p18441.
